Baseball....almost.This entry was posted on 5/27/2007 6:34 AM and is filed under South Korea. Last weekend the boys from school decided they wanted to hit the baseball stadium on Saturday. I was game too...a baseball game on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Nothing wrong with that! Unfortunately, half of Busan had the same idea.
It seems that the Busan Giants are having a good year. They're playing better than they have in years, and thus the fans are heading out to the games. In fact, it was a sold out crowd. Kurt and Paul tried to buy tickets and were in fact turned away just as they got to the window. I was already on my way. The boys headed to a bar, along with HJ, Kurt's wife, and a couple fo other friends. The bar was in fact right across the street from the stadium and showing the game. By the time I got there the drinks were already flowing. We preceeded to cheer along with the Giants and in fact help draw a crowd to the cafe. The owners seemed a little surprised to have so many people there as games don't often sell out. By the sixth inning there were tables all the way out to the doors and on to the sidewalk. We, however, had a prime spot in front of the TV. We convinced the owner to let us bring in food and muched on fried chicken while Koreans looked on bemused by our drinking, our choice of food, and our whole-hearted cheering. Soon the table next to us, brimming with 10 Korean 20-somethings and at least 10 bottles of soju, started chanting and making newspaper pompoms. They taught us a cheer (which is basically just repeating Lotte, Lotte, Lotte, Lotte, the company that wons the team, to the tune of Glory Glory Hallelujah) and toasted us. There was also a huge parade going on outside in honor of Buddha's Birthday. It consisted of floats, music and about a million people. It went on for hours, literally. By the end of it we decided it was almost better for the game to have been sold out. We had a blast! Paul, Me, HJ and Kurt...in the restaurant. Not sure why Paul and I are blurry. ![]() After the game: Kurt, Paul and I pose for a picture. It took about a minute for HJ to get the camera working...hence my laughing face. ![]() Paul and I with the stadium in the background. (Never mind the date) And no more complaining there's no pictures of me on my blog. ![]() |
