Lazy Blogger's BirthdayThis entry was posted on 4/1/2007 5:00 AM and is filed under South Korea. I admit it. I'm being a lazy blogger. I can't be bothered to hit the cyber and write lately...as it seems all I do is work. But here I am. So what can I write about?
Well, this week will be our first fieldtrip. April 5th is Arbor Day and I suppose that the fieldtrip will have something to do with planting trees, but in true Kid's College form, we've been told nothing so far. The level of communication at school is basically non-existant. I realized that I go days without talking to either of my supervisors. This may sound like a good thing, but it is a bit tough. I've been given no protocol, no feedback, no advice. Everything I'm doing is from my own brain. So I can only hope I'm doing a satisfactory job. On a bright note, the school threw me a little birthday party. (Yup...had my birthday this week.) They surprised me with a cake during one of my afternoon classes. It had tons of candles on it (though still not as many as the years I've got under my belt). They shot little confetti popper things and had had the kids sing Happy Birthday. It was very cute. Also, Chaehun must have gone home and told his parents and his mom sent me a little birthday card and scented soap the next day, which I thought was very nice of her. Other than that the celebration was minimal. Deidre and I went out, to Gwangali Beach area, after school to grab some drinks. We actually had to search pretty hard for the first bar, as everything was closed at 4 in the afternoon. (Koreans are notoriously late-night people.) We bounced around to a few places, ending at Hollywood Star. Deidre said the owner sometimes does a fire show and we were hoping to catch it. Unfortunately he only does it on weekends so we were out of luck. We did end up talking to one of the waiters, Kama (as in, and I quote, "Kama, Kama, Kama Chamelion...but I'm not gay.") When he heard it was my birthday his response was, "What, you have no friends?" Gotta love the Korean bluntness. All in all, it was pretty low-key. One more year passing by. I definitely thought of everyone back in New York and the inevitable Cheap Shots debauchary that would have happened if I was there. ::laugh:: So, to all of you back home...know that I miss you. Cheers! |
