Korea: The first daysThis entry was posted on 3/5/2007 6:12 AM and is filed under South Korea. NYC-->Detroit-->Tokyo-->Pusan
There are 2 version of this story: 1) After my 3 flights I arrived safely in my new city. 2) After my 3 excruciatingly long flights I arrived tired, cranky and stiff in crazy, crazy South Korea. It was quite a trip. The first flight was fine...just a short hop. The second was unbearable! 14 hours sitting next to a Korean man who continuously hacked phlegm about and snored. Also...he wouldn't get up, insisiting that I climb over him to get out...as did the man on the aisle...when all the seats in front of me were reclined....so basically...no getting up. Ugh! (I made a run for it when they used the bathroom, but that was it.) The third flight...I don't even know. I was so much a blob of headachey human flesh at that point, I don't really remember any of it. I do remember getting off the plane though...yay!!! I also remember waiting for my bags...the last things off the plane! Talk about getting nervous...stranded in Korea with nothing after 24hrs. of travel. I would have gone balistic at that point I think...if I could work up the energy that is. Things have been a bit difficult these first few days. I had no blanket and pillow in my apartment...or furniture beyond a bed and TV...one plate, one bowl, one fork, one cup...no knife....no hangers...no toilet paper...no anything really. I bought some stuff, but it's not all my responsibility. They are supposed to provide basics. I talked to the school director today but he isn't being helpful. One of the other teachers suggested speaking to someone else at the school, which I will be doing tomorrow. The grubby hand-me-down blanket someone gave me isn't cutting it...nor the lack of pillow...still! Though I must say the apartment is pretty good...modern with lots and lots of storage. Good stuff. I had my first day of class today and am completely wiped out. I wish I had the energy to write all about what's been going on but I can barely type (not that the Korean keyboard makes that any easier...it's got to be all no sight typing and my brain just isn't having it right now.) I will be posting all about my classes, students and so forth as soon as I can. Right now the glow of the computer screen is killing me. All I can think of is being horizontal in my bed...even without a pillow. CommentsDisplay comments as (Linear | Threaded)
