Okay, so Im still learning my spanish vocabulary, but it finally clicked that Granada means pomegranate. I have a strange affinity for pomegranates…theyre just so yummy. (Can someone magically teleport me a bottle of POM juice…please )
Also, my favorite mythological story involves pomegranates: Persephones trip to Hades. (BTW -hi Tom! my mythology guru)
-more-

Strangely, I actually remember the first time I ate a pomegranate…sitting in the kitchen of my house in Baldwin, enamored with the fact that I was to eat the seeds of a fruit –quickly making a mess of myself and the kitchen tablecloth. (note: pomegrante juice stains, hardcore!)
Strange fact: did you know that each pomegranate has exactly 840 seeds? I cant vouch for the accuracy of this fact…its just something I read. (knowing me, next time I get my hands on one Ill be counting seeds!)
Okay…Ive gone a little awry here. I meant to make a quick segue into the fact that, like the fruit, I am lovng the city of Granada.
With a population of about 250K people its a little city with plenty of oppurtunity for serenity. The barrio Albayzin, the old city which climbs up the hills in the northern part of the city, is a maze of cobbled streets, white-washed houses and dead ends. There are several small rivers, parks and tree-lined streets. But…surprise, surprise, the night life goes all night! I keep getting back to my hostal at 4 or 5 in the morning…having just left a bar or cafe full of people. They certainly know how to party here in Spain!
Alas…I see my time is almost up at this internet cafe, so Im cutting this a bit short.
I may have pictures up soon, as Ive met a local who promised me use of a WiFi connection. We may meet up later today…heres hoping.
Adios todos…con cario…
